Masters veterans commemorate Remembrance Day with annual outing at Rochdale Mayfield ARLFC

Masters veterans commemorate Remembrance Day with annual outing at Rochdale Mayfield ARLFC

With the vast amounts of military veterans within the Masters community, it is only right that Remembrance Day is the main event of the year to be commemorated with a fixture.

2024 was no exception with over 60 military veterans and their families proudly making the journey to the home of Rochdale Mayfield to represent all three services in a fixture played in true Masters spirit.

Carl Abraham, Masters Veterans Lead, said:

“Without certain individuals and organisations these events don’t happen so a special mention goes out to everybody involved at Rochdale Mayfield for their generous offer in once again hosting this event. Their first-class hospitality ensured the occasion got the respect it rightfully deserves. We must also thank all of the wonderful organisations who have helped with sponsorships of the fixture and playing shirts – without you all this wouldn’t be possible.

“Together, through sales, sponsorship, playing fees and generous donations, we’ve raised an impressive £2007.30 that will be split evenly between Soldiers League, The Royal Navy & Royal Marines Charity and The RAF Benevolent Fund & support their amazing work within the Armed Forces Community.

“Our next planned veterans get together will hopefully be the annual fixture to commemorate Armed Forces Day 2025 with the veterans committee looking to showcase Masters Rugby League on the biggest stage whilst having the opportunity to show our support to our Armed Forces community and give poignant military events the respect they deserve.”

If you’re a veteran or still serving and want to get involved in any of the Masters Veterans get togethers please contact Carl Abraham (Veterans Lead) via email or keep an eye on social media with regular information posted.

Remember, ‘We don’t stop playing because we grow old, we grow old because we stop playing.'
